In the gospel of Matthew chapter 6, Jesus tells us not to worry about food, clothes, and shelter. The Father understands what we need and will provide. Jesus explains that the Father even clothes the grass of the field. What an interesting concept to consider? I mean when I look at the grass in my yard, I just see grass. I never thought of it as something that God was taking care of, just as in the same way people are getting clothes, food, and shelter. I think the idea of this is that something even as insignificant as grass to you and me, but yet God takes care of it. Now you and I, who are worth so much more, God will definitely take care of our needs. The kicker to this is at the end of Matthew 6, “…For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:32-33 NKJV). If we seek first God and do the things that please and honor Him, then all these things will be added. Therefore because of this, Do not worry.
As I reflect on the fact that what I want is to serve God in fulltime ministry as a Pastor, yet God knows my wants, desires, and my needs. God has provided me what I have asked Him, in that He has provided me a job to support my family, but in my selfishness it is not what I want. What I want is a job to provide for my family and serve God by ministering to those in a church setting. I believe that God will provide me the opportunity to be a Pastor but I also believe that I can honor Him in any job because I know that He has provided and His timing is perfect. I know He is faithful and I can focus my heart, my mind, and my attitude on seeking Him first in my marriage, being a father, being a son, being a friend, being an employee and being a disciple of Christ. Therefore I will not worry…
What about you?
Proverbs 16:9NKJV
9 A man’s heart plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps.
Proverbs 3:3-6 NKJV
3Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart,
4And so find favor and high esteem
In the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 n all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
Matthew 6:25-34 NKJV
25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
