Fusion: Turning First-Time Guests into Fully-Engaged Members of Your Church by Nelson Searcy & Jennifer Dykes Henson
Fusion was a book that was given to me by a close friend of mine. As I continue my pursuit for fulltime ministry work, I have found this book to be quite informative in understanding ways that can help the church engage with first time guests. When I read through this book I felt that much of the material was common sense, but then again, what is common sense anymore.
Just the simple fact of understanding how to treat new guests within their first seven minutes of arriving to your church, to how to follow up with them in the coming weeks. The authors seem to center on one idea, that they want to get a guest from a 1st visit, to their 2nd visit, to becoming a fully committed follower of Christ who is engaged in growing in Him and helping to strengthen the body at their local church. This sounds like a no-brainer but over the course of time many churches have lost sight of what they should be doing. It can be easy to get so caught up in doing church that we forget that Christ has called us to make disciples. Too many churches are afraid of change and I think that as culture changes we should change and adapt without compromising the integrity of scripture. I believe that the ideas in this book could help any size church.
If you are interested in learning some good techniques to help with the assimilation process at your church, then I highly recommend this book.
