In our lifetime we are inundated with information that tells us how we should think, feel, and act about certain issues. The current culture is more focused on what social media says is there purpose than what their actual purpose is based on truth. The world continues to move more and more in a direction that has lost sight of truth.
God has given us many promises in scripture that we can and should place our trust in. In recent weeks and days, I have seen sports teams, cities/communities, social media, and other various things changing crosswalks, social media icons, and anything else, to a rainbow. It’s unfortunate that many do not know the truth behind a rainbow and what it actually means. Most will see a rainbow and associate it with a certain lifestyle and group of people. When in reality the rainbow is a gift from God. Actually, it’s more than a gift, it’s a sign of God’s covenant or divine promise that He made with all humanity and the earth. According to Genesis,
“12…God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. 14 It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; 15 and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” Genesis 9:12-16.
That is what the rainbow stands for and why it exists. Once again, something as beautiful as a rainbow, that represents God’s divine promise to everyone, has been distorted to represent a lifestyle that does not honor God.
It’s not what you’ve heard over the years about rainbows. It’s not what you’ve heard about God. It’s not what you’ve heard about you. God loves you and does have a purpose and plan for you, and it’s not what you’ve heard.
To simply state, God has called us to love Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. We are to love others, and we are to help others follow Jesus. We will find joy in life if we will start with our God given purpose as followers of Christ. (See scripture references below)
How can we know what our purpose is and what God has promised, if we do not seek Him? I challenge us all to open the scriptures and read about the promises of God, read about His amazing love, and read what your purpose is based on the truth of His Word. Allow the Holy Spirit to be your guide, and not something you’ve heard.
Genesis 9:8-17 (NKJV) 8 Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying: 9 “And as for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your descendants after you, 10 and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of the earth. 11 Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12 And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. 14 It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; 15 and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” 17 And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
Matthew 22:35-40 (NKJV) 35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is thefirst and great commandment. 39 And the second islike it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
2nd Timothy 2:1-2, 22 (NKJV) 1You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
